LETS ALL GET DEAD

So - this guy says, (stop me if ive said this already)
"i was in africa, and was at a dinner table sat next to this guy who had been risen from the dead. The dude was totally out there for God, had raised several others from the dead and had such a radical lifestyle. I couldnt help sitting there feeling inadequate and wishing that i had been through a death experience too.......................... but then i paused, and thought... isnt that what we are all meant to have been through, when we died to self to be alive in Christ? And should it effect our living in the same way??""

So - nice story, but it brings me to this qoute:
a quote from Max Planck: "a new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it."

Is it possible, that we could see, by the grace of God, and the willingness of a generation to die while still alive, that we need not wait for those resisters of new paradigms of God to literally die before things can be born? Does it really have to boil down to that? Is the Wilderness paradigm how its meant to be - that a generation has to die b4 we are ready to come into our promised land together?
Strong provoking thoughts arent they.
Its really very very sad, but also hopeful in a sick kind of way. You see, i cope with the transition and processing within church - filled as i am - with a knowledge that we are turning the tide, that over many generations to come a reversal might begin to occur. But actually, that has more to do with my coping mechanisms than what God is able to do, heck, what nature is even able to do - it IS possible for things to turn in a generation.

Thoughts?

Gaz, that is some thought! But you are so right. We only want to see God work in a way that we feel we can cope with, as you say a gradual change over generations. But wouldn't it be great to see the change in our life time? The thing is as Diane says, we cling onto the life we have and know until it's hopeless to cling on any more. But we need to die to the old body because the new resurrection body is going to be different. Maybe this applies not just to our individual physical death but also to the 'Body of Christ'. Thanks for always making me think a bit more deeply and not becoming complacent. Keep your thoughts coming.

Nah, there doesn't have to be death. We just need to create a legacy. Something that keeps going long after we have gone home. Now some, they build monuments to themselves or something else. Monuments are static, they're dead. Legacies live and grow.
Kris Vallotton of Bethel Redding (California) as just completed a series on this called
"Legacy". You could probably order it at www.ibethel.org
Following is Kris' bio from their website. Martin Scott has gone and imparted to the folks at Bethel Redding a few times.

"Kris Vallotton is a noted prophetic voice in Northern California, and has trained prophetic teams in this region. He is a sought after speaker with a vision for equipping an "Elijah generation" for the end-time harvest.

Both Kris and his wife Kathy have a vision to raise up a company of warriors to impact this generation for Christ. It is their goal to see the fulfillment of Isaiah 61 with their own eyes. This prophecy begins with individual people getting delivered and healed--it ends with the ruined cities being restored.

Kris says it is time for the fire of God to burn up His enemies and warm the hearts of the lost. This mandate has become their mission. God has instructed them to gather together warriors with like hearts, than train and equip them, and send them into the Harvest. Holy Spirit fortifications must be established in the midst of the darkest places of the planet earth.

Kris is currently Senior Associate Pastor at Bethel Church in Redding, California and Kris and his wife Kathy are Overseers at Bethel's School of Ministry. They have four children and five grandchildren."

Sorry, didn't mean to detract from the main idea here. Yeah, it is going to be great to see things turn in this generation. Actually, they already are starting to.
But as it has been pointed elsewhere on this blog, when you occupy a territory it doesn't mean you own it. That's been the problem with most revivals, they die out after the generation that birthed them dies out. That's were Legacy comes in. When I create a legacy, my great-great-etc. grandchildren can enjoy what was created in my generation. Same in the spiritual. But what we need for a true legacy is something of our DNA that reproduces itself, generation after generation. We need to say to our kids (both biological and spiritual) "Hey, you need to re-create yourselves. Don't stop here with what has been passed down. Keep it moving. Pass it forward and tell your kids the same."
If this doesn't happen, then reformation, emergent, revival and renewal will have to go through another cycle of death and birth. Good Lord, PLEASE, let it work this time. Keep these things alive, don't let them die. The consequences of revival/renewal/reformation not continueing this time around may well be the end. The big The End. As in Book of Revelations . . .
Lord have mercy . . .

This has been helpful. Ive just remembered something Martin Scott preached on once, about generational blessing. He got methodists, salvationists, new church movement types on the stage and went down the line saying 'anointing in the grave, anointings in the grave'. He began to unpack how we need a three generation punch to break through to that place of Godly nationhood. No abraha isaac annnnnnnnnd jacob - no nation. He talked about anointings in the grave in how the anointing went from elijah to elisha, but the king screwed up and it didnt pass to him, instead went into the ground with elisha, so when a soldier fell dead into his grave - he got back up alive.
Martin was asking that if it goes into the ground, theres an aspect we can call forth, but there is also a starting again. he was calling us to at least get the anointing to the next generation, to at least have a 2 generation partnership and crossover, and hopefully a third, but least take responsibility for at least 2.

So - what does that mean for legacies? is that us calling something forth from the ground? mantels laid down mixed with mantels fresh from heaven? dunno. Does it mean that legacy gives us something to draw from but ultimately is something we have been disconnected from so we are starting again to see generational partnering? mmmhhhh food for thought isnt it.
